Week 26

I am under the 100 day mark! Yipee! This is very exciting!

Baby Nick sure is getting big. Last night when I was getting ready to go to bed, my entire stomach was bouncing. I have no idea what he was doing in there. I have noticed that he doesn’t like when I lie on my side…if my stomach is leaning too much against the bed. He starts kicking that side like crazy. Almost like he is saying, “Mom, this is so uncomfortable. I will kick you until you move positions.” And of course, he always wins.

The weekend, of course, when by too fast. Thankfully, last night Seth and I were able to get some quality time in and watched a movie and ate popcorn. That was fun. On Sat. we celebrated our friend Chad’s birthday party. We ate at this amazing restaurant on the water in Georgetown. Then during dinner, my friend Allison-Chad’s wife-, leaned over to feel the baby kick and she did! Twice! So that was very exciting.

On Sunday, our little Queen was dedicated. Here are a few pictures of her. She was so good. We also got to hear one of our missionaries, David Ray, speak. He has an amazing story and just got released from prison in Asia. Our church had been praying for a long time that he and his partner would be released. His partner is still in prison, but hopefully, he will be released this Summer.

It is a big week for Baby Nick. He opens his eyes this week.

Here is what is happening this week with our little guy! (pregnancy.org & baby-gaga.com)

At long last, your little swimmer can see the womb! Your miracle’s little eyelids have finally separated (they were fused closed previously) and they’re probably having their first moments of sight as you read this (or maybe it already happened while you were brushing your teeth or watching Oprah or something). In addition to seeing their little studio in your belly, they’ve recently acquired the ability to say “yes” and “no” in rudimentary sign language as they can now move their head back and forth. This is also the time where your little super star’s head hair is starting to grow! A cute little cowlick or two may be springing into position right now, getting ready for years of cute-but-stubborn bed-head. Also, their toenails have grown in and you little raisin continues to slowly pile up fat beneath their still-loose skin. Most importantly, brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace, increasing their (genius-level) brain activity and will continue to function at accelerated levels for the first seven to eight years of childhood!

Your baby may weigh about two pounds now (average is 1.7 pound, 760gm) and is 14 inches (35.6cm) in length. To support the fetus’s growing body, the spine is getting stronger and more supple. Though no longer than the span of the average adult hand, it is now made up of 150 joints, 33 rings, and some 1,000 ligaments. Air sacs in the lungs form now. Lungs begin to secrete a greasy substance called surfactant. Without surfactant the fetal lungs would stick together and couldn’t expand after the baby is born. Retinas begin to form. Brain wave activity for hearing and sight begins to be detectable. Fetal brain scans show response to touch. If you shine a light on your abdomen, your baby will turn his head, which according to researchers, means his optic nerve is working.

Weekend Activities

It’s Friday again. What a relief! I’m sure most of you feel that way too. I actually don’t have a job scheduled this afternoon, but I am speaking for a Women’s group tonight. I was ask last minute, so I have to spend today preparing for it. Women’s groups are always fun. They are so entertaining and alway seem to have lots of questions, so it makes my job easy.

Hopefully, I can finish up decorating the baby’s room. It’s almost finished, but I need to add those little touches, like hanging pictures and putting things away. Then on Saturday night we are off to DC to celebrate our friend Chad’s birthday party. It should be a blast. We always have a grand time with them.

I’m off to do my new workout.

Happy Friday!

My new workout

We just got a really cool treadmill off Craig’s list for an amazing deal. I can’t believe it is ours. I just feel like I got back from the gym. I took my water bottle and magazine and headed to the basement (to what soon will become a really hip media room-at least we hope so) and did my new workout routine. It will even be better whenever we decide to get a TV down there. But for now my magazine and my own tunes (and by my own tunes, I mean, me singing…good thing I’m the only home) will do just fine.
I’m probably gaining more weight then I should, but I have to blame my son for that. Not only is he growing at a rapid rate, but I am ravenous all day long. I increased my fiber and protein big time, since the doctor said that should help me stay full longer. But no such luck. So, I have to keep up my workout to hopefully maintain a steady weight gain. I have come to the realization that right now my body is not really mine and I just have to deal with that. But when I do get it back, I will be one happy camper.
Thats it for me. Sorry, it wasn’t an exciting post. I’m been extremely busy with work so there really isn’t too much more to report on.

Week 25 and Baby Nick’s New Bedroom

Thanks to my Mom and Daddy Seth, we got the baby’s room done and I am completely in love with it. It turned out exactly how I imagined it. We worked all weekend doing his room and putting up shelves. I can’t believe all the changes we have made to our house in the last 2 months.

I think Baby Nick will love those circles. I chose the circles because I have a feeling he will love to look at them when he is in his crib. I could be wrong, but that is what Momma juju thinks he will like.

While we were painting all weekend, Baby Nick was kicking like crazy and my mom finally got to feel his strong kicks. No wonder, from the baby ticker he is about 2 lbs.

Here is what is happening this week: babycenter.com & babyzone.com

  • The structures of the spine begin to form – joints, ligaments and rings. These will protect the all important spinal cord which serves as the information transmitter for your child’s body.
  • Blood vessels of the lungs develop.
  • Your baby’s nostrils begin to open. There is a study out of Belfast that suggests babies at this stage have the capability of scent preferences!
  • The nerves around the mouth and lip area are showing more sensitivity now. When baby is rooting for food later on, these will be valuable!
  • His swallowing reflexes are developing.
  • Dexterity is improving. Your baby can make a fist and would clasp objects placed in palm.
  • His skin is translucent and wrinkled, and he can hear your stomach when it gurgles and your voice when you sing.
  • Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 to 14 inches. His weight — a pound and a half — doesn’t sound like much, but he’s beginning to exchange his long, lean look for some baby fat. As he does, his wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and he’ll start to look more and more like a newborn. His hair is probably recognizable now (in color and texture), although both may change after he’s born.
