Abel & Ava Weekend Extravaganza

This weekend our favorite little 3 month old girl came to visit us…Ava Virginia Wiederman. We had the PLEASURE of babysitting her while her parents went to a concert to celebrate their anniversary.

Let me just say Ava is an absolute doll. The best baby I have EVER watched in my life. I thought it was going to be crazy with 2 babies, so I enlisted the help of my wonderful mother and sister, Alison. But sweet little Ava proved me wrong. She was an angel. Abel was (and still is sick) so he was cranky and grumpy, but Ava either slept, ate or just played. Perfect. Perfect baby. I thought I had a baby doll that I was watching instead of an infant. If I would swaddle her, she would go to sleep. If I would give her a bottle she would eat. If I gave her a toy, she would play and stare at it. Wow! Seth and I aren’t used to that type of baby. Seth was shocked when I put her in the swing (which Abel hates) and she fell asleep with 4 BOYS in the same room talking and laughing!!! Amazing.

Brace yourself, these pictures are TOO CUTE!!!
Lets just analyze this pictures, shall we. Abel has a look on his face that says, “Enough alright. Don’t you crazy parents have enough photos of us together.” Ava’s facial expression is saying, “Mom, are you serious? I can’t believe you are making me touch him.”

I love this one. It shows how Abel always squeezes his toes together, plus an added bonus, he is staring at her hand. And Ava just looks adorable!

In this photo they were starting to fall over.

This next series of photos shows what the future will hold when they are playing together.
Here Ava is holding her toy. Abel is starting to make his move… 20071006_Abel&Ava_07

This one is a little blurry, but it captures Abel in the act of taking her toy.

And yep, my son definitely stole her toy. Can you just see this in a few years? Ava will come crying to us that once again Abel stole her toy.

My sister, niece and nephew stopped by to visit so I of course had to get photos of them.

While Abel slept, I took a few photos of sweet Ava.

Linny & Glenn: We will watch Ava anytime!

In Abel news, he is so sick. I am calling the Dr. this morning to see if they can see him. He has a bad cold, which could be from his teething, but he has an awful cough that has kept us all up for the last 3 nights. I need him to get checked out to make sure it isn’t anything serious. I’m a new mom and I can’t take any chances. Sure, it might just be a bad cold, but I need to know that it isn’t life threatening. I know, I’m a worrier and I am really trying to work on not worrying so much. It just got even harder when I became a mom. Ok, all you moms out there…I now TOTALLY understand why you all worried so much about us.

Fenway Fanatics

The Nickerson household is extremely happy tonight. It is always a good day when the Red Sox win, but it is especially a good day when they win in the playoffs.

GO SOX!!!!

The Red Sox swept the Angels.

We had the pleasure of seeing the Red Sox at Fenway Park 2 weeks ago. Some of the pictures are posted on the sidebar, but here are a few more for your viewing pleasure.

And what kind of a post would it be without Abel pictures.

Precious, precious feet: (He alway squeezes his toes together. It is so cute! He “discovered” his feet recently and now can’t keep his eyes off them.)

Handsome little man. He is becoming a real natural in front of the camera. :)

I love his profile, but then again, what don’t I love about this child.

It has been a rough weekend. His fourth month shots really took a toll on our little guy. He has been sick with a fever, cold and cough and of course, he isn’t sleeping. Needless to say, we are exhausted. However, he does love his rice cereal and slept all night the first time he had it. I am now a super fan of rice cereal!

How ’bout them apples!

You asked for it! Just prepare yourself, there are lots of pictures in this post.

While we were up in MA visiting Seth’s family we went apple picking. I can’t remember the last time I went apple picking. It was so much fun!

20070923_ApplePicking_34

Seth, don’t look so excited about your apples.

20070923_ApplePicking_28

I thought it would be fun to buy animal food to feed the animals…turns out everyone else thinks that is a grand idea too so they didn’t want my food.

Can I trade Allister for one of these….pretty please??? 20070923_ApplePicking_06

The brothers hanging out in the tree. The sky really was that blue that day. Just gorgeous.

Walking around at the apple farm. (I love this shot! Way to go, hunny.)

Abel had enough apples by this time.

This is true apple picking at its finest. 20070923_ApplePicking_11

This picture shows his man-size zit. He gets the same large reoccurring zit on his chin….um…..sounds just like his mommy.

In other baby news, Abel turned 4 months old yesterday. He started cutting 2 teeth at 3 1/2 months old. YES! TEETH! And YES. TWO!!!! We had his 4 month check-up today and my little tank is weighing in at 16 lbs. and 25 inches long. And after talking to the doctor, Abel is going to have his first taste of rice cereal tonight! We will be filming this new experience.

Stay tuned.

And it only cost $2.90

When Abel was just a little bitty newborn he loved to be swaddled. Boy, do I miss those swaddling days. It only lasted 7 short weeks. I would swaddle him up all nice and toasty and place him in between the sleep positioner and he would stay all snuggly like a bug in a rug.

Then one day as I was doing our normal routine, he starts fighting the swaddle. I was sooooo for the swaddle that I wasn’t going to let him give it up without a fight. So, I swaddled him up and placed him in the crib and sure enough he starts grunting and kicking, first undoing the bottom velcro. His feet become loose, but I thought that was ok since his hands were still in the swaddle. After 10 minutes he broke his hands loose and no more swaddle. Oh no, I wasn’t giving up that easily. I picked him up, re-swaddled him and placed him back in the crib thinking he definitely wouldn’t do it again. He quickly became faster the second time around and within minutes was out of the swaddle. This went on for about the next half hour (swaddle, breaking out of the swaddle, re-swaddle etc.) and when I walked in and saw the swaddle blanket was around his face, I finally relented and let him win the swaddle fight.

What’s my point? I miss the swaddle. He REFUSES to sleep on his back, so I had to start putting him on his tummy. I know, I know, you are all shaking your heads at me. But it was the only way I could get him to sleep. So, after the swaddling was over with I “thought” he didn’t need my trusty $2.90 sleep positioner that my thrifty sister, Kate, had picked it up for me.

Well, after a weekend of bad napping and nights, I needed some help. He has been able to roll from his tummy to his back since he was 3 weeks old and he HATES sleeping on his back. He screams as if you were torching him. Most naps he wakes himself up because he has rolled over and since he hasn’t mastered rolling over from his back to his tummy, he can’t put himself back to sleep. Then if FINALLY dawn on me….the sleep positioner should be able to keep him from rolling over.

And ta-da it WORKS!!! He took 3 somewhat go naps yesterday. As you all know, Abel is not the world’s best napper, but since he couldn’t roll over he was able to put himself back to sleep.

I’m just kicking myself that I didn’t think of it sooner!

And don’t stop reading just because I haven’t posted any Abel pics in awhile….they are coming. :)
