Just in time…

Abel knows just the right time when to interrupt me. He starts to cry or need me the second I sit down to eat. It always happens. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Doesn’t matter which meal-he usually interrupts them all. How does he know when I am just about to eat? I always think, “ok, not this time b/c he is being so good and I can finally eat”. Nope.

Then yesterday, I was so excited. I had just put him down for a nap and I thought, “Oh, I have at least 45 minutes.” I’m going to make some hot chocolate and get some gift wrapping done. The tea pot started screaming and I was getting really excited as I was stirring in my hot chocolate. It seemed like the perfect few minutes to really focus on the season and enjoy a few minutes to myself. NO SUCH LUCK! Just as I was picking up the hot chocolate to take my first yummy sip…guess who starts screaming bloody murder. I thought, “No, it is too early, it has only been 20 minutes.” And 20 minutes in my book is NOT consider a nap. I thought for sure he would put himself back to sleep. Nope. Finally, after mircowaving my hot chocolate for the second time (it just doesn’t taste the same when it is from the microwave), I put Abel in his new favorite seat-the Johnny jumper seat-and finally got to do “a little” wrapping while being watched by my little man.

I forgot to post these pictures earlier. They are too funny and I thought you all would enjoy them. They were taken a few weeks ago, but we always get a kick out of Abel when he eats.

He really isn’t backing away from the food (although that is what it looks like), he was trying to get out of the bumbo seat. He isn’t a fan of it. Now I know why it was recalled. He can pop right out of it.

Look how happy he is to get his sweet potatoes. Bring them on, mom!

First time trying green beans didn’t go over too well. He liked them the next time he tried it, but every time we give him a new food, this is usually his facial expression.

Gross mom. Will you get those nasty green things out of my face!

20071122_022.jpg

When he doesn’t like a new food, he doesn’t swallow it and so it just hangs out in his mouth. He also will gag and try to cough it out.

But then he was a happy guy when it was all over.

6 month check up

20071208_014-1.jpg

I still can’t believe my baby is already 6 months old. Today was his 6 month check up and here is how are little guy is measuring up.

18lb 2 oz (60 percentile)

27.5 inches (80 percentile)

And for those of you who think he has a big head, well….he actually has a small head compared to other 6 month olds.  His sweet head is only in the 15 percentile. I ask the doctor how they get these stats and he told me it is from the 1960 and only was tested on Denver, CO babies. Can we say update your records docs. How hard is it to do another study? This is the 21st century.

He also got his shots today. I hate shot day. He gets grumpy and miserable and the last time he got shots, it turned into a bad cold which then turned into croup. I prayed over my little guy and am hoping he wakes up a happy guy tomorrow morning. Does anyone else hate shot day? Thank God we get a break until he is 1 year old. Which reminds me. Guess who turned one year old today….my precious niece, Victoria. Here she is one year ago today. Wasn’t she a gorgeous newborn!

Happy Birthday sweet girl. Your Auntie Juju loves you.

Remember last week when we had that nice little snow storm? Well, it wasn’t so nice for me and my Subaru. I got in my car to go to work and I see a little crack starting to appear on my windshield. Each time I got back in my car that day the crack kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Fast forward a week later and my subie has a brand new windshield. Abel and I had the special privilege of watching how a windshield gets replaced. Have you ever experienced this? Abel and I thought it was quite fascinating. Anyway, I was determined to get a photo of Abel experiencing his first snow. So here it is.

Not too exciting, I know. Daddy Seth was a little grumpy this morning and wasn’t amused that I was making him get in the photo. But I was still in my pjs and I was not getting ANOTHER photo of me and Abel in my pjs. Every time Seth takes out the camera or the video camera, I am in my pjs. Abel is going to think his mommy never got dressed. So therefore, I was not getting in this photo.

All he wanted for Christmas was his 2 front teeth

Santa came early this year in the Nickerson household.

Look what Abel got already.

After 10 days of an awful cold and horrific diarrhea, two beautiful pearly whites popped up within two days of each other. I feel like a bad mom too. I didn’t even discover his first tooth. How awful is that? I had checked the day before because so many moms have told me that when they get a cold and diarrhea together…it usually means teeth are coming. I kept checking. Nothing. Then we went to my sister’s house on Thursday to take their family pictures for Christmas and Kate sticks her hand in his mouth and sure enough, she felt tooth #1. The next day, tooth #2 popped up and what do you know…the diarrhea has left his body. Praise Jesus!

I also got my Christmas present early from my dear hubby. We usually both surprise each other and wait till Christmas morning, but this year all I really wanted was a new coffee table/storage unit/leather ottoman so that I wouldn’t have to worry about Abel bumping his head when he started moving around more. Seth found the most beautiful brown leather storage ottomans and the top flips over to become a tray and an added bonus…2 mini ottomans came with them and they make perfect little foot stools. They came within 2 days of ordering them, so when the UPS guys knocked on the door (which they knocked so loud it woke Abel up from his nap-not cool UPS guys, so not cool) with 2 HUGE boxes, I ask Seth if I could open them early. Seth is all for enjoying gifts as soon as possible, so we opened them up and are loving the new addition to our home. Thanks hunny!

That’s it for now. I need to open shop in the Nickerson Kitchen. Lots of goodies need to be made in the next for days for my loved ones. :)

Santa Baby!

What would you do if this Santa came down your chimney?

You would attack him with kisses and squeezes, wouldn’t you?

I love this one…he looks so lost on the couch.

We hosted our church group Christmas Party. We always have a lot of fun and packed a bunch of couples and their kids in our townhouse. The more the merrier, right? For the last few years, we play a silly gift exchange where you can steal gifts, have fun laughing at who ends up with what, etc. I love hanging around this wonderful group of people.

Seth ended up with a Christmas pin. I turned around only to discover he was wearing his new gift.

And here he is not so amused….notice the Christmas hat came off. (I tried to make him wear it all night.)

And here we are proudly showing off our new gifts. (by the way, I am wearing a Santa chef hat, not just some terrible Santa hat) :)

Abel does this ADORABLE thing where he grabs your cheeks and squeezes them and then give you a BIG WET KISS. IT IS THE BEST THING ON THIS EARTH! He will do it to anyone. You just have to say “Kiss your momma” or whoever and he gives kisses and then smiles real big afterwards. Here he is with his Poppy.

Just being cute as Santa!
